Wordly Wise

Another simple and easy to use curriculum that has made my list for curriculum reviews is Wordly Wise. After my daughter’s first year of homeschooling, I realized that they needed dedicated time in the day studying and building their vocabulary.

Wordly Wise has filled this gap in the girl’s curriculum. What I most appreciate with how Wordly Wise is structured is the way in which the girls are exposed to learning new vocabulary words. They don’t simply read a list of definitions and then use them in a sentence. Wordly Wise guides them with each new vocabulary list through different paths of learning about new words. One lesson may have them matching up phrases that explain the vocabulary words, another lesson may have them selecting antonyms for each vocabulary word, or they may have to read a brief essay that uses the vocabulary words and later they will answer questions about the essay they’ve read. They learn about new words from different perspectives and this further strengthens their understanding of different words. With each Worldly Wise workbook, the teaching parent can purchase the answer guide that complements the student workbook.
The girls use the Book Number that corresponds to their grade level, but the teaching parent can decide which book level to start their child in based on how challenging they would like the list to be for their specific child.
Pros:
·         Easy to understand lessons for both teaching parent and student
·         Exhaustive lessons for each vocabulary list, enabling the student the ability to gain a thorough understanding of vocabulary words

Cons:
